Welcome to a source of news and information for Clermont County, a service of Clermont College

BATAVIA -- The Clermont Lantern is getting a fresh coat of paint - and a new mission.

Established as the school newspaper for Clermont College (now University of Cincinnati - Clermont College) in 1977, the Lantern lasted more than three decades and informed students about the events happening on campus. The paper stopped its print edition in 2012, moving to an online format. In 2026, the College has made a decision to re-imagine the outlet as a training ground for media students and as a community resource.

The focus of the outlet is no longer restricted to campus news and information, but has expanded to the entirety of Clermont County.

What does this mean for The Clermont Lantern? With our focus stretched out to the greater Clermont County, reporters will no longer focus solely on UC news and events. This outlet will cover stories like business and individual spotlights, voter guides, resource sharing, local government news, and more.

Clermont County has been neglected by major news services for far too long; this often leads to a lack of access to information about local events, businesses, and government accountability.

Many residents feel news outlets only focus on the tragedies that take place in the county. We believe our home is more than the bad things that happen here. The lack of truly local news coverage also allows unfair perceptions of the citizens of Clermont County to prevail. We believe it is time to put an end to that.

The people - faculty and students - building Clermont Lantern welcome you to share good news with us while we explore the county. You can reach out to clermontlantern@ucmail.uc.edu with story ideas, questions, and feedback.

Our first reporters are already working on building the new Clermont Lantern.

Chad Brill is a Digital Media Communications major from Felicity whose focus is on reporting about interesting and smaller local businesses as well as shining a light into the lives of those who run said businesses. You can email Chad at brillcl@mail.uc.edu.

Kira Jordan is an English major whose focus is on local government, resources, and events. You can email Kira at jordakp@mail.uc.edu.

For the Clermont Lantern relaunch to be successful we need dedicated and engaged readers. It would help us greatly if you could share this website with friends and family who are interested in hearing and learning about local businesses, events, resources, and more. Following this outlet allows us to grow our team of reporters and editors so that we may provide more coverage across Clermont County.
