Preserving almost 40 years of The Lantern
The following article was originally published 5 Sept. 2025, not long after The Lantern's new website was published. We've pulled it from the archive after a website update.
In 2025, it was my job as Lantern intern to scan, label, and catalogue the physical papers as the first step to making Clermont's history available to all!
I completed that work in mid-August, 2025, and a few weeks later, the physical papers were delivered to UC’s Archives and Rare Books Library (ARB) for preservation. The digitization work continues as UC archivists and the Lantern’s 2023-2025 faculty advisor, Dr. Margaret Williams, collaborate to prepare the scans for uploading to Preservica—an online repository.
Including interviews from previous Deans, professors, and staff, alongside student spotlights, the 1977-2012 Lanterns showcase Clermont’s small, yet close community. Featured events — many of which continue to this day — included Spring Fling, holidays and Anniversaries. Alongside these events were performances from the Kreuger Auditorium and Calico Theatre. Local artists and students alike also displayed their artwork in Clermont’s Art Gallery, another practice that continues to this day.
